Introducing Our No-Compromise High-Performance Mini-Monitor

With the continuing success of our remarkable Sierra-2/2EX speakers, it was our goal to take that level of performance and offer it in a stunningly beautiful yet surprisingly tiny cabinet.

Featuring a custom RAAL true ribbon tweeter and our exclusive 4.5" SEAS Curv™ woofer all combined in our remarkable low resonance layered bamboo cabinet.

With the major success and continual overwhelmingly positive customer feedback for our Sierra-2 speakers, we began heavy research into seeing what we could achieve in trying to offer that level of performance in a much smaller and more placement-versatile speaker.

It was an easy decision to use the same custom RAAL ribbon tweeter used in our Sierra-2, but we needed a woofer that would provide similar dynamics and performance to the exceptional woofer we use in our Sierra-2, only it needed to be quite a bit smaller. Our requirements were simple, but yet nothing existed, at least not just yet.

Much like with the development of the Sierra-2 woofer, and taking full advantage of our relationship with SEAS of Norway, the process began. We quickly learned that woofer design becomes exponentially more difficult as size decreases. We went through more prototypes for this woofer than we have for any other transducer we have ever had made for us. After slightly over a year, and just when we thought we were going to have to take a different approach – SEAS nailed it.

Combined with an advanced crossover and all housed into a stunningly beautiful FEA and advanced 3d CAD designed Made-In-The-USA layered bamboo cabinet, these speakers beg to be both heard and seen!

The Luna has exceptionally wide and linear horizontal dispersion thus it presents a shockingly large and enveloping soundstage, even in large rooms. Its performance belies its small size in such a way that in our many public auditions of the Luna’s, listeners continually throw out comments stating “these speakers sound so much bigger than they are”.

Hand assembled, tested and packaged in the USA, we are so confident of the component and build quality of the Luna that we are backing it by a comprehensive 7 year parts & labor warranty. Left / right pairs are matched by hand to within ± 1dB and we are including a printout of the actual production line response measurements of each speaker.

We dare say it, but you simply can not find this type of quality control, care and pride from products that are fully assembled and tested in overseas manufacturing facilities.

We must warn you though, once you have heard what these RAAL true ribbon tweeters are capable of, there simply is no turning back...

We thank you for your interest!

  • All Luna are hand assembled, tested and packaged at our factory in Orange County, CA.
  • A serialized production line frequency response measurement is included with each speaker.
  • 7 year manufacturer's warranty + 30-day satisfaction guarantee.

  • Exclusive 3-ply vertically laminated bamboo cabinet construction dramatically reduces cabinet resonance for a cleaner, more detailed, and transparent performance.
  • Cabinet is a stunningly beautiful natural hardwood finish, there are no veneers and as such, no need to be concerned about peeling veneers or wraps or veneer cracks.
  • Cabinet is fully environmentally friendly as the bamboo we source is a completely renewable resource.

  • Fully custom manufactured by SEAS of Norway to our specifications and exclusive to Ascend Acoustics.
  • Long-throw design for high power handling and extended bass.
  • Exceptionally large magnet system combined with symmetrical driving force.
  • Specially designed high loss natural rubber surround to improve damping and resonance control, critical for smaller cones.
  • SEAS’s exclusive SpiderRing® technology improves suspension alignment for higher long term reliability, improved power handling and improved mechanical linearity.
  • Injection molded cast frame for a stiffer basket frame combined with large windows allowing for less material behind the woofer cone reducing back-wave reflections for enhanced detail, better airflow and less cavity resonance.
  • Vented pole-piece and open spider for enhanced air-flow and cooling, minimizing compression artifacts.
  • SEAS Curv™ cone technology that is extremely low mass, stiff, and provides exceptional self-damping providing greater detail while remaining smooth with no harsh cone break-up modes.

  • Fully custom true ribbon tweeter manufactured by RAAL in Serbia to our specifications.
  • True ribbon tweeter has no voice coil, the pure aluminum ribbon is the only electrical conductor and the only moving part.
  • Extremely low moving mass design, typically less than 1/50th the mass of a dome tweeter, enabling near instantaneous acceleration / deceleration, and no stored energy all combined to provide near perfect transient reproduction.
  • Class-leading horizontal dispersion width provides a huge soundstage and precise imaging.
  • High powered neodymium magnets in a unique homogenous design (equal strength magnetic field throughout the entire ribbon area) provides lower distortion and less stress on the ribbon diaphragm.
  • Critically damped rear chamber to absorb the back wave of the ribbon diaphragm, improving frequency response linearity and overall transparency.

  • Dual layer design separating the tweeter network from the woofer network.
  • Metallized polypropylene capacitors in the direct signal path.
  • Air-core inductors in the direct signal path.

Full-range quasi-anechoic on-axis frequency response @ 1 meter unsmoothed speaker positioned vertically:
Luna Frequency Response Graph

Horizontal and vertical off-axis graphs plus listening window:
Luna Off-Axis Graph
Note: Listening window is the averaged response of 5 separate measurements, on-axis, +/- 15 degrees horizontal and +/- 15 degrees vertical. Due to the measurement technique, the response below 250Hz is invalid, as represented by the above and below horizontal green bars.

Polar Response:
Luna Polar Respons
Note: 5 degree increments from 0 degs to a full 90 degs off-axis. Note how the critical midrange response remains linear and consistent with uniformly decreasing spl as frequency increases. This represents an exceptionally wide off-axis response.

Impedance and electrical phase:
Luna Bode Plot
Note the extremely clean impedance response (free from wrinkles which would represent various forms of resonances) and linear phase with minimal phase angles. The mild phase angles ensure that this speaker is an easy load for even basic receivers.

Energy Time Curve:
Luna ETC Graph
This measurement is a good indication of overall transient accuracy and stored energy. The graph displays the decay time of a full range impulse. The impulse occurs at 3ms and decreases uniformly to the noise floor (-45db) by 4ms. This represents a decay time of 1ms, which is superb. Large diameter woofer cones, woofers and tweeters with poorly designed motor systems and/or heavy mass and poorly constructed cabinets will often contribute to far greater decay times which damage transient accuracy, coherency and overall resolution.

Cumulative Spectral Decay:
Luna CSD Graph
This measurement is similar to the energy time curve but displays a 3 dimensional view such that we can examine the decay time with reference to frequency. It is an exceptional tool to reveal transient accuracy and indicate various problem areas with respect to resonance and stored energy. The CSD of the Luna is exceptionally clean with good uniformity.

The Luna’s versatility is unmatched, crossed at 80Hz and used with a sub, they make terrific mains sounding nearly identical to our Sierra-2/2EX. The Luna’s are the perfect surround speaker with any of our ribbon speakers as fronts, or for someone seeking the ultimate desktop monitor. Using the integrated mounting hardware, the Luna’s become the perfect on-wall speaker.

The Luna combines extraordinary dynamics, realism, spaciousness, transparency and detail while doing so with such finesse and refinement that there is never a hint of harshness. Although bass is limited, it is impressive for a speaker this size and there are no issues running them full range. Music and home theater simply sound more realistic, providing a more satisfying emotional connection. We must warn you though, once you have heard what these true ribbon tweeters are capable of, there simply is no turning back...
